Hello, gorgeous! Welcome to the first installment of The Fashion Downtown’s “About Trends”!
In this segment, I’ll be choosing one trend from the world of fashion’s many, and share my insight about the trend and style those items in my own way! I’ll also be suggesting stores/websites from where you can shop for these trends.

This week, the trend we’re going to talk about is, Leather.

Leather or leatherette (faux leather) is everywhere From bags, belts, shoes to clothing, you name it!
The material has gained much of a fascination in recent times and not just for accessories. Leather corsets, tops or bottoms have been the talk of the fall season since as long as one can remember.
Leather jackets are an absolute staple from the ’90s till date, but now people have shifted their love for leather to more everyday apparels. The runways of fall 19-20 featured a ton of leather in the looks which the fashionistas seemed to drool over. Casual, chic or preppy, leather clothing can be migrated in either direction and styled.

STYLING LEATHER CLOTHING BY THE FASHION DOWNTOWN

LEATHER SKIRT

A very easy, not too OTT leather skirt is all you need to look preppy and very business chic at the same time!

Here, the faux leather skirt is paired with a beige, flowy chiffon button down shirt tucked in, with black stilettos and a leather structured handbag.

The outfit is created with a perfect balance between the body hugging leather skirt and the loose, flowy shirt.

LEATHER PANTS

The most popular clothing item of leather after the infamous jackets, are leather pants! A must have fall piece that is found in every fashionista’s wardrobe

I have styled these mom fit faux leather pants with a fitted cami crop top and leather boots with golden accessories.

Leather pants, like regular denims, have many different cuts and styles to choose from. Skinny to baggy to bootcut, leather has it all!

LEATHER TOP

A corset-like leather top might seem a little adventurous but if it’s paired up in the right way, can make your entire look pop!

I have styled the faux leather top with bootcut baby blue denims and to add a pop of colour, layered it with a hot pink blazer and matching pumps.

ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in this faux leather dress, looking drop dead gorgeous and totally ready to rock the red carpet. Who said leather is only for streetwear?!

WHERE TO SHOP?

Personally, I have invested in my leather clothing from H&M, Vero Moda and Zara because their pieces have a soft lining inside allowing the clothing to be breathable which makes it super comfortable to wear. And they look quite chic and not super shiny (that’s just not my vibe.)
